I have graduated college and am now focusing on learning more about photography. This blog will begin to feature some of my work along with fun information about various topics (DISNEY!).

Christmas is coming, and with that, changes...
I have not updated the blog in a while but with pretty good reason. I had a few clients traveling (one just left yesterday - LUCKY!), Thanksgiving, and now preparing for Christmas. I am also still in school and have found another part time job working from home. So, my plate has been pretty full. I will probably making some changes in the near future, one of which is changing the blog and my Facebook page. I think I am going to focus more on photography, and still adding in a bit of Disney, but also writing about other things I love. I really hope to take a Disney vacation as well, so if that happens I can write about my planning and then vacation.
One thing I have been doing is learning more about photography. I have been doing it for a few years, but there is always room for improvement. My mission is to get a few great photos of my son in front of the Christmas tree, which is challenging since he can't seem to sit still for longer than a nanosecond.

Throwback Photo: Spaceship Earth Wand
In honor of the new millennium, Disney decided to add Mickey's hand with a wand and 2000. After the millennium celebration the 2000 was changed to Epcot and remained that way until 2007. The wand was finally removed and Spaceship Earth returned to its original state.
I actually didn't mind the wand as much as others. It was already in place during my first visit to Epcot, so I had nothing to compare it to until it was removed. Still, I do prefer the simplistic beauty of Spaceship Earth. What are your thoughts?

That Disney Feeling...
I found this photo today, and I couldn't agree more. Walt Disney World is my happy place. I love going, and I love planning vacations for not just me but also my clients. Driving through those gates, seeing the castle, hearing the sounds, all of those things just make me feel good.
When I am not at Disney I watch movies, listen to Disney music (one of my favorite streaming stations is Sorcerer Radio on Live365). I collect Disney items, and I am always willing to talk about anything Disney related.
Some people do not understand the pull that Disney has on my heart. Disney is more than just a few vacation destinations - it has the ability to make people happy, to make them feel like a kid again. I love sharing Disney movies from my childhood with my son, and I love discovering new ones together. His very first movie in a theater was a Disney movie (Planes). He has been going to the parks since he was an infant, and he can't wait to go back.
So, while some people do not get my "obsession" with Disney, it doesn't matter. It is what makes me happy, and all I can do is hope that they one day get the same feelings I have.

Avatarland in Animal Kingdom
This planned expansion, set to take over the location of Camp Minnie-Mickey, has been divisive since the announcement. Although most people will agree that Animal Kingdom needs more, many believed that this was the wrong way to accomplish that feat.
I will be perfectly honest and say that I have never seen the movie Avatar. I had no interest to see it until I heard Disney's announcement, so I figured I should see what it was about, but I still have not gotten a chance to see it. As a result I figured that I could not make a snap judgment regarding whether or not it was a good fit for AK.
Disney has released some more information about the expansion, and I have to say that it looks pretty amazing! According to reports, guests will be able to walk through a bio-luminescent jungle. They will be able to experience flight on the back of a Banshee. There is also a planned water ride.
I think the best addition is that of nighttime entertainment. Animal Kingdom is sorely lacking in this department. The plan is to utilize Discovery River to create an amazing new experience.

Changes to Walt Disney World's Restaurant Cancellation Policy
A couple of years ago Disney started requiring a credit card guarantee and charging a $10 per person cancellation fee for select restaurants. This fee was waived if you cancelled a day ahead of time. According to reports, Disney will now be enacting this policy for all restaurants beginning October 31, 2013.
I have mixed feelings about this, but I mostly approve of this policy. Many people would make multiple reservations (either because they weren't sure what food they would want that day or what park they would be in) and many would fail to cancel and just not show up, which meant that some people would miss out on eating at a restaurant because they were booked. This also meant it was possible that some restaurants were losing business because they had no-shows. Now, many places would have stand-by lines, so Disney losing money was not as likely, but it was a possibility. This new policy would help to prevent those issues, which I am all for. It can be discouraging to try to get a reservation only for it to be booked, and if people were making multiple reservations, this was even more likely to happen.
My issue with this is that things happen and people may not be able to make it to their reservation. Disney is allowing guests up until 11:59pm the night before to make cancellations, but this does not help people that have legitimate issues the day of the reservation. A child could get sick or be too cranky to make it through a sit down meal. There could be terrible weather and people may not want to go through a park just to eat. Now, these things are not Disney's fault, but if there was a bit more leeway (for example, allowing people to cancel a few hours before their reservation) it would help. In many instances Disney will still be able to fill tables, so they will not be out money.
I do admire Disney for trying to stop the multiple reservations and no-shows because it (hopefully) means that more people will be able to try the various restaurants. I just hope that they pay attention to the affect this policy may have and make changes if needed.
